Class Teacher
The Fusion Academy is a brand new Free School Academy for children and young people aged 7-19 with communication and interaction needs and/or autism. We opened in September 2020 (in a temporary site) and recently moved across to our new purpose built school in Barwell. The Fusion Academy is part of a Multi Academy Trust called Open Thinking Partnership.
This year, we have 25 students aged 7-14 (key stages 2 and 3). We will continue to grow every year until we reach our full capacity of 80 students aged 7-19.
This is an exciting opportunity to change lives in a challenging but highly rewarding environment. Due to the expansion of our school, The Open Thinking Partnership is seeking to recruit a number of Teachers, primary and secondary trained, who will help establish and grow this school as an outstanding provision.
one vacancy starting after Easter (12 April 2021) and two vacancies starting next academic year (23 August 2021). Please can you confirm which vacancy you are applying for by confirming the date on the application form.
Autism experience and understanding is an advantage but not essential as undertaking training will be an important part of the induction process.
A specialism in English or science would be an advantage, as would the flexibility to teach across the curriculum.
Applications for part-time Teachers may be considered.
Salary - MPS / UPS (depending on qualifications and experience) and SEN 1.
What we need from you:
- Flexibility
- Positivity
- Resourcefulness
- Creativity
- Tenacity
- Good team member and leader
- and above all a passion for providing a high quality education for young people with autism and / or communication and interaction difficulties.
The curriculum is being developed to respond to the individual needs of pupils, assisting them to build strategies to minimise the barriers to their learning, enabling them to access a mainstream curriculum within an adapted, nurturing, structured and supportive learning environment. You will be working with an innovative leader to help develop our growing school.
As a result of their special educational needs, many of our students will struggle with emotional regulation and this can lead to significant challenging behaviours. Candidates need to be prepared to adopt a problem-solving approach to the challenges that those young people bring.
Recognising these strange times in which we are living recruitment is likely to be carried out using video links and online tasks. We will expect successful candidates to start their role under the direction of the headteacher and to be willing to undertake training prior to starting their new role. The post is subject to completion of a satisfactory 6 month probation period.
For an informal and confidential conversation in the first instance please contact Sonia GarnerJones (based at Dorothy Goodman School) on the details listed below. She will arrange a mutually convenient time for you to speak to the Headteacher, Sarah Peck.
The closing date for the applications is Monday 1st February 2021
Interviews will take place during the week beginning 8th February 2021.
