HEAD OF STUDIES
Thank you for your interest in this post at WQE.
We believe that this is a particularly exciting time to be joining us, offering a real opportunity to make a difference in this thriving and vibrant Sixth Form College. We strive for excellence in all aspects of our work with students; their academic and wider achievements, their learning experiences, the support they receive in relation to their academic progress, their learning environment and their wider experience of College life.
In this context, we are looking to appoint a well-qualified, self-motivated and enthusiastic Head of Studies, who will help us provide the best possible learning experiences and outcomes for our students. Following our recent merger of WQE and Regent Road College, it is planned that that this post will operate across both our University Road and Regent Road buildings, located within a 12 minute walk / 5 minute drive of each other.
The successful candidate will work to provide efficient, responsive and flexible leadership of the arrangements for monitoring and supporting students’ progress in order to ensure the provision of the best possible learning experiences and outcomes for students, as well as fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will work as one of two Heads of Studies who work collaboratively, between you, you will have overall responsibility for systems and processes to ensure appropriate support for all students with their academic progress and wider development. You will share between you the oversight of the team of Personal Progress Mentors and Student Supervisors so that there is effective monitoring of and support for students. You will also be key in giving advice and guidance and making decisions over changes to students’ programmes of study. The Heads of Studies also form part of the leadership group of middle leaders who are responsible for making key college operational decisions.
For our part we shall make every effort to support our new colleagues in making the best of the professional opportunities offered by this post.
This is a permanent, term time position, working 37 hours per week (plus three additional weeks throughout the year) commencing 17 August 2020. The additional weeks are to recognise the need for availability out of term time to give post results advice as well as the need for preparation time out of term time. The nature of the role does require flexibility with working hours and so some of the three additional weeks will be accounted for by TOIL accrued from this. The salary will be on the Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff pay scale 54-57 which ranges from £45,161 to £48,070 per annum pro-rata. The actual starting salary for this post is £42,225 per annum.
Completed applications must be returned by 8.00am on Wednesday 22nd April 2020. Short-listed applicants may be contacted via telephone, and therefore it is essential that appropriate contact numbers are included within the application. Interviews will be held w/c 4th May 2020, these will be virtual. Full details will be emailed out to candidates.
If you have not received further communication from the College within 2 weeks of the closing date please assume that your application has not been successful on this occasion.
I would like to thank you again for your interest in this post and I hope that we may hear from you in due course.
