Ysgol Y Deri is a Special School for pupils aged between 3 and 19 years, which caters for a wide and diverse range of differently able pupils. We have state of the art facilities, and work with every child as an individual, ensuring that their educational and therapeutic needs are met, enabling them to flourish both within our school and when they leave.
We are seeking to appoint a number of HLTA’s across the Penarth Site of the school.

Description:
The governing body wish to appoint caring, committed, and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistants. Working closely with the class teacher you will support the educational development of our pupils in a therapeutic way to ensure the physical, social and emotional needs of the pupils are met.
Additionally, you will work collaboratively with other school-based professionals, such as occupational therapist, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists to carry out programmes of work.
There are opportunities to support the pupils in a large variety of activities in our state-of-the-art facilities.
The successful applicants will be expected to cover classes in the absence of the class teacher and must be passionate about teaching and learning. It would be an advantage to have experience of working with pupils with Additional Learning Needs. Applicants must meet the HLTA requirements or have equivalent qualifications/experience.
Interviews will take place during the second half of the summer term for a September start.
About you
You will have excellent communication skills, and be able to use IT, both personally and to enhance learning opportunities for the students. You will be highly organised and have the ability to work as part of a team. You will be sensitive and understanding and have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. You will use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures. You will support class teachers with maintaining good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment for the pupils.
You will observe pupil performance and pass observations on to the class teacher
You will conduct small class teaching groups under the advice of the teacher, and
contribute to effective assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording, and reporting of pupil performance and progress as appropriate to the level of the role.
You will read and understand lesson plans shared prior to lessons, if available
You will use your area(s) of expertise to contribute to the planning and preparation of learning activities, and to plan your role within such activities.
You will need to be flexible and adaptable and open to change.
You will be actively supportive of the ethos, vision and values of the school. and have high expectations and a commitment to ensuring each pupil reaches their full potential.
