The KS3 curriculum is based around our major games of rugby, football and cricket. In Year 7 the students are taught gymnastics which leads into trampolining from Year 8 onwards. Athletics, net games, striking and fielding games plus orienteering make up the remaining KS3 activities. At KS4 students all take part in PE and can enhance their PE through taking GCSE PE or Level 2 Btec Sport. In our sixth form (RR6) Level 3 Btec Sport is offered in conjunction with Ricards Lodge School. Sporting opportunities are an integral part of our enrichment offer from Years 7-13. At present activities include rugby, football, hockey, table tennis, badminton, indoor rowing, tennis, cricket, trampolining and athletics. The department also organises the Duke of Edinburgh programme, which the 2i/c is expected to lead.
Rutlish is a very successful, oversubscribed comprehensive school located in the leafy suburbs of Wimbledon. The school is highly successful in all its sporting fixtures. We have a long standing relationships with Old Rutlishians, Wilton Tennis Club and Cranleigh Tennis Club. We also contribute to the ball boys at the AELTC and regularly have boys on Centre Court during the major championship each year. We have very strong links with the Merton Schools Sports Partnership and many of our students act as Sports Leaders for their events
We can offer experience of working in an “Outstanding” oversubscribed school: In April 2017, Ofsted rated Rutlish as “Outstanding”. In April 2022 Ofsted carried out a Section 8 inspection and confirmed there has been no change to the overall judgement of Outstanding. In 2019 Rutlish was ranked as the top non-selective State funded boys’ school in England, based on the progress students made between KS2 and KS4. In addition, our Sixth Form students were ranked in the top twenty for non-selective State funded boys’ schools in England.
