SAFEGUARDING MANAGER

We can also consider a term time only position for the correct candidate.
Who is SupaJam:
SupaJam is an award winning, Ofsted rated Good Post 16 Specialist Provider. Working with vulnerable and disadvantaged 16-25 year olds, SupaJam uses the power of contemporary music to reignite the desire to learn and achieve in these students.
Our ethos is to be forward thinking, caring and encouraging whilst providing a structured, supportive and non-judgemental environment, allowing all our young people to thrive and achieve to their full potential.
SupaJam has two bases, one in Swanley, specialising in live performance and recording, and one in Canterbury specialising in broadcast radio and music media.
Currently we support over 100 students across both bases, the majority of whom have EHC plans and a variety of SEN needs or who have previously disengaged from mainstream education. Our students are united by their passion for music, and with our support, engage in the RSL Music Practitioners syllabus, as well as English and Maths and additional programmes that cover SMSC, British Values, Practical Musicianship and work experience.

The role:
Safeguarding is not just a duty, it must be embedded into every aspect of SupaJam. The mission and ethos of SupaJam is young person centred, and the Safeguarding Manager must ensure that all staff practice safeguarding effectively and confidently within every aspect of their roles.
Aside from promoting the value and importance of keeping our students safe, the Safeguarding Manager is the main point of contact for any safeguarding concerns which may pose a risk to students or staff, as well as liaising with relevant external agencies.
Duties:
Working with staff -
- Work with and understand partner agencies, parents and young people to create a collaborative approach to the safety and wellbeing of SupaJam students
- Take part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings
- Ensure that SupaJam’s child protection policies and safeguarding policies are known, understood and used appropriately by all staff
- Have a working knowledge of how local authorities conduct a child protection case conference and a child protection review conference
- Deliver relevant training and updates for staff
- Create easy points of access for staff to be able to discuss safeguarding concerns
- Ensure SupaJam are meeting statutory requirements for the Prevent duty for both staff and students
- Line Manage the Behaviour and Welfare Practitioner to implement student Behaviour Support Plans
- Role model the ethos of SupaJam at all times and work collaboratively with SLT to maintain a positive staff and student culture within SupaJam
- Working with students -
- Understand the assessment process for providing early help and intervention for all students
- Make necessary referrals with external agencies
- Develop positive relationships with students and parents to better support and understand students inside and outside of SupaJam
- Support with non-attending students and conduct home visits where necessary
- Create easy points of access for students to be able to discuss safeguarding concerns
- Where young people leave SupaJam, securely transfer their child protection file to their new provision
Completing administration -
- Document and investigate safeguarding concerns and ensure that all staff are creating accurate and consistent records
- Maintain knowledge of current safeguarding legislation and referral agencies
- Maintain current knowledge and expertise of the safeguarding management system CPOMS
- Regularly review all SupaJam policies relevant to safeguarding, welfare and child protection
- Maintain relevant training, ensuring SupaJam follows best practices
- Create accurate risk assessments where required
- Monitor the Behaviour Points section of the management system Arbor
- Collect, report and help with the analysis of relevant data around safeguarding
- Take responsibility for relevant actions within the Quality Improvement Plan to ensure the ongoing progress of SupaJam
Additional responsibilities:
- 1 staff meeting per month & 1 lock-up each week
- Attend management team meetings to share information around Safeguarding to the team
- Coordinate monthly safeguarding meetings with relevant staff
