The Opportunity
BASIS (Brunel Autism Support & Inclusion Services) is part of the Brunel Academies Trust and provides a range of services for Children and Young People (CYP) across Swindon. At BASIS we strive to include all CYP and to meet their often very individual needs with a creative and innovative approach.
BASIS has many different elements to its structure and includes a range of provisions for CYP from the age of three upwards and currently, we are seeking to recruit a small team of Secondary SEND Teaching Assistants to join our Links Provision, an unregistered alternative provision with bespoke packages for a small cohort of secondary students in Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.
You will form a newly developing team, who are part of a wider network of experienced SEND professionals within BASIS at our Headlands Industrial Estate site. It is not essential you have SEND experience but would be beneficial if you have and this may be personally or professionally.
Your Role
The attached job description will detail your role in full. But at a glance, some of the key fields you will be responsible for include (but are not limited to):
- Promote the inclusion and participation of all CYP with SEND/autism spectrum disorder or identified social communication and interaction difficulty and/or other additional needs ensuring they have equal opportunities to learn and develop
- To support teachers and leaders to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the unique needs of the SEND/ASC/SCID learner to access intervention/therapy programmes and the curriculum.
- To contribute specifically to the creation of a supportive, nurturing environment for service users
- When needed, to act as escort in the transportation of students to and from the base
- Use SEND/ASC specific specialist skills to facilitate access where appropriate, access to the curriculum and maximise the independence of the student
- To keep records, contribute to reports and carry out assessments using a variety of media and evaluation strategies.
Your Experience
Our person specification attached will contain the full areas of skills and experience, but it is really important to us that you feel comfortable and confident in your role, so although you may not have everything desirable, there are some essential features our appointee will need to have and these include:
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Basic ICT skills
- Have some knowledge of the autistic profile of need
- Have good organisational and time management skills
- An effective English communicator both written and verbal
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
Hours: 32.5 pw
