About Star Institute
Our vision is to nurture today's young people and inspire tomorrow's leader. We provide teacher education, professional development and school improvement support for schools, Multi-Academy Trusts and Local Authority partners. Our programmes are designed to build a world class school workforce and support the continual development of school staff and governors so that each individual can play their full part in driving social mobility and delivering educational excellence.
Star Teachers is an intensive and challenging Initial Teacher Training programme that leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the optional award of a PGCE at Masters’ level. Trainees can specialise in primary (5-11) or a specific subject at secondary level (11-16). Star Teachers currently offers the following secondary subjects: mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, English, history, geography, modern foreign languages and religious education. We will offer a 12 month programme that combines in-school experience, centre-based training and online tuition.
Built around the essential dynamics of pedagogy, progress and pupils, our blended learning approach combines in-school experience, mentoring and centre-based training. These experiences will ensure that trainees can teach high quality lessons and make a positive contribution to keeping children safe, happy and well.
Training to teach is both rewarding and challenging. We are looking for graduates who have the determination to succeed, a commitment to working hard and the ability to work with others. You must possess a good degree (typically 2.2 or above). For secondary trainees, this should normally be relevant to the subject you wish to teach, but A-level subjects in your chosen area will be considered. Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses are available. You will need level 4 (formally grade C) or above in GCSE English and mathematics. Primary trainees will also need a level 4 or above in GCSE science.
The programme is full time over one academic year.
Applications to Star Teachers are made through the UCAS Teacher Training portal. Applications are treated on a first come, first served basis, so apply early to secure your place.
Tuition fees for all programmes leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) are £8100. For QTS with PGCE the tuition fee will be £9250. For high priority subjects, you could receive a £26,000 tax-free bursary whilst you train or up to £28,000 tax-free with a prestigious scholarship.
