Maternity Cover – Full Time
Teacher of Dance
The SPACE, Heathfield Community School, Taunton, Somerset
Salary - MPS points 1-6
You will be someone with a passion for teaching dance & performing arts, who is able to share our vision to deliver all round professional theatre training for young people. “We are looking to make an appointment for maternity cover with a strong subject knowledge in dance, but stress that the ability to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach within a team environment is essential.”
You will be part of a dedicated, 16-19 team, including full-time teachers and technicians to work with you to deliver the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. You will work in a state-of-the-art performing arts centre, which includes an 80-seat theatre, two dance/drama studios, an Apple Mac design suite and everything else you would expect to find in a professional theatre environment.
You will be supported by a dedicated and passionate teaching team and support staff who share a vision for providing quality experiences for young people in the arts. You will be guiding learning in technique-based lessons in contemporary dance, choreography and developing a full-scale dance show. You will also be supporting students in their studies for the Extended Project Qualification, as well as their UCAS applications.
This is a wonderful development opportunity for someone who has a passion for teaching and who is either working with, or aspires to work with the 16-19 age group. We believe The SPACE enables young people to acquire a range of generic and transferable work skills and raise their self-esteem. We are looking for someone who will share this philosophy. We are looking for passion and commitment and will consider applications from Qualified Teachers & NQTs.
Over 70 students train at The SPACE and the team has achieved outstanding results and the highest value-added point score in the area, placing it in the top 10% of providers of this qualification nationally (according to ALPS data). The students come from all over the South West, are committed and show a passion for performance. They are motivated by the course and work extremely hard. The course is full-time with an emphasis on performance and production. In this context students learn everything about the ‘business’ of putting on a production from business planning to marketing.
