The Geography Department is thriving and ambitious, staffed by a resourceful team of three subject specialists who teach across all key stages. Geography is a very popular options subject at GCSE, with over two thirds of the cohort studying it in Year 10 and 11. The Geography Department ethos is to provide high quality teaching and a stimulating curriculum which enables each student to reach his or her potential in their understanding of the real world. Embedded in the Geography curriculum is a range of thought-provoking up-to-date scenarios and case studies designed to build skills of observation and enquiry, analysis and evaluation. Throughout key stage 3 we build up students’ understanding of the physical and human world, skills of enquiry and investigation, process and product, cause and effect. At GCSE we follow the new AQA specification, and students study Living with the physical environment (natural hazards, the living world, physical landscapes in the UK), and challenges in the human environment (the urban world, economic change and resource management).
The successful candidate will be able to offer engagement, stretch, support and challenge to all learners. They will be able to accurately assess the progress and achievement of students, groups and cohorts and provide appropriate provision to ensure progress of all is maximised.
