Brecon High School is on a journey. We are a small school with a huge ambition set within the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park. Following a challenging Estyn inspection, the governing body and school leaders are determined to develop the school into one of the highest performing secondary schools in Wales.
The school is improving at a notable pace. Having moved into a brand new multi-million pound building in 2019, the school is looking to secure additional staffing capacity within the Science and Technology Area of Learning Experience. The new building has state-of-the-art facilities, including a ‘mega-lab’ within the Science area and a range of purpose-built Technology teaching spaces. You can visit our new school website to learn more about the school and I would encourage you to look at this when you can.
This appointment will be an important addition to the Science and Technology Area of Learning Experience. Both subject areas are very experienced, and you will be joining the school at an important point in its desire to improve. Brecon has an important Welsh stream within Key Stage 3 and 4 and we have aspirations to grow this over time. It is desirable therefore, but not essential, that the successful candidate is a Welsh speaker.
Because of the nature of the work involved, the post you are applying for is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013) - This position has a requirement for an Enhanced DBS Check, this position is classed as regulated activity under the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and will be subject to a check to the list of those people barred from working with children.
