How you'll make a difference
We are looking to appoint a dynamic teacher who has experience of working with vulnerable students. You will need to have a passion for raising attainment and will have the commitment and drive to change outcomes for children and young people who are likely to have experienced multiple and complex disadvantage, deprivation and trauma.

Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home (VGSCH) is situated in South Gloucestershire, located to the north east of the city of Bristol. It was opened in February 1995 and accommodates up to 24 young people of both sexes, aged between 10 and 18. The Home has been designed to a very high standard and is structured to provide physical containment in an environment which is comfortable and attractive. VGSCH offers young people a safe and caring environment, where they experience high quality care, education, recreational facilities, vocational and life skills training. What will you be doing?
In the role you will design and implement an engaging and relevant subject curriculum including schemes of work
You will teach your subject area to up to 24 children and young people in groups of 2-4 within the secure Home environment
Daily, you will plan and teach effective and appropriate lessons to the classes you are assigned to teach
It is essential that you assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils including ensuring that pupils work is marked and up to date with clear feedback to support progress.
You will work with others on curriculum and/or pupil development to secure co-ordinated outcomes
You will be required to build effective and positive relationships with children and young people, many whom have experienced complex trauma, and may demonstrate problematic and/or extreme behaviours.
You will contribute to developing social skills, raising self-esteem and encouraging the personal progress of all pupils in all activities.
Support the wider network of professionals to meet their statutory responsibilities ensuring that educational and holistic needs of children are met
You will work proactively and in line with the Home’s behaviour management policy to promote positive behaviour and deploy affective strategies to minimise disruptive and unwanted behaviour
Promote the safety and well-being of pupils and adhering to all safety, security, safeguard
We welcome applications from both experienced candidates who have the ability to work with difficult, troubled and vulnerable children and who believe they can make a difference, and from relatively newly qualified teachers who are excited about being involved in this kind of work.
You should enjoy teaching small groups of children in a highly structured yet flexible and often challenging environment. Experience with pupils who demonstrate behaviours that challenge, including those who present with SEMH, a huge amount of patience, a good sense of humour and great flexibility are very helpful for this role.
