Background to the post
This exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a teaching assistant. We are an independent co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3-18, located in the small village of Bryn, just outside of Llanelli. We are a relatively small school, currently with 420 students of whom around 70 board with us. A small number of learners access specialist support to help them to overcome specific difficulties they face in their learning and benefit from the expertise of staff, which enables them to achieve their potential.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic teaching assistant who will mainly support a specific pupil with their learning, for 10 hours per week. You will demonstrate compassion, understanding and patience as a person, taking the time to understand your allocated learner’s needs and what helps them to learn best.
Our school continues to go from strength to strength, with many school years being oversubscribed due to demand for places. There are tremendous benefits to working in the independent schools’ school sector and St. Michael’s is one of Wales’ leading schools. In 2017, our pupils and staff secured the highest GCSE results in Wales, in 2018 we were placed 30th in the country by The Times for A-Level and 27th in 2019, along with the award of Welsh Independent Secondary School of the Year. In late 2020, we were named as Welsh Independent Secondary School of the Decade by The Sunday Times. These achievements are down to our hard working staff who go above and beyond in everything that they do and our highly motivated pupils, whose conduct and enthusiasm supports them to achieve great things. Pupil behaviour is exemplary and a strong pastoral system ensures that rewards and sanctions create a supportive and optimistic climate which allows learning to take priority.
Application method: Covering letter (one side of A4 max) and fully completed application form. There is no need to provide a CV. The covering letter should outline what strategies and approaches you have used or would use to support pupils with additional needs. You can either attach the covering letter separately or simply enter it into the ‘personal statement’ section of the application form.
Closing date for applications: Monday 10th May
