Introduction by the Principal, Dr Paul Phillips Weston College’s exam and course results are consistently above the national average and last year positioned us as the top College in the West of England. Our record breaking A Level pass rate of 100% and 99.2% over the last two years and our BTEC National and BTEC First Diploma pass rates of 100%, reflect the academic excellence of our students and the commitment and ability of our teaching staff. We continue to offer a wide range of courses to ensure you develop the skills employers and universities are looking for. We offer more than 100 vocational courses, over 35 A Levels and an ever increasing range of very popular apprenticeships. When our students complete their qualifications they progress to employment or higher education. We are the only education provider on your doorstep in North Somerset to be able to give you the opportunity to progress from an entry level course to a degree. Whatever you choose to do, your time spent at Weston will increase your skills, boost your confidence and open up major opportunities for your future. Over the last three years we have invested heavily in our buildings and facilities to ensure we offer our students the best possible resources in the South West. Our new state-of-the-art University Campus opened in September 2007 and houses Arts, Media, Design, Music and a Sixth Form Centre. It also houses degree level education delivered in partnership with Bath Spa University. Weston College’s Knightstone Campus also includes the latest technologies and state-of-the-art facilities including an industry standard fitness suite and gym, world class training kitchens and restaurant as well as a new Learning Resource Centre. In March 2008 we received an exceptional Ofsted report which praised our rich and varied curriculum and described the support we give our students as “outstanding”. I am very proud of all that Weston College offers to our students. Exciting courses, superb facilities and innovative methods of delivery ensure you have the opportunity to achieve great success. I look forward to welcoming you to the College in the near future. Our history - past to present Weston College has served the education and training needs of its local community for more than 100 years. It has its origins in private drawing and painting classes provided by Henry Stacy in Oriel Terrace in 1859. The School of Art was opened on 7 February 1865 under the auspices of the Government's Department of Science and Art, and with the aid of £40 collected from local residents. In its first year of existence the Principal was the only teacher and approximately 80 students attended the six classes held weekly. Since 1 April 1993, the College has been an autonomous public body. It is funded directly by central government via the Learning & Skills Council (LSC).
