History of Weston

History of Weston

Weston College has served the education and training needs of its local community for more than 150 years. It has its origins in private drawing and painting classes provided by Henry Stacy in Oriel Terrace in 1859.

The School of Art was opened on February 7th 1865 under the auspices of the Government's Department of Science and Art, and with the aid of £40 collected from local residents. In its first year of existence the Principal was the only teacher and approximately 80 students attended the six classes held weekly since 1 April 1993, the College has been an autonomous public body.
