Bridgend College has over 12,000 students and employs over 800 members of staff across its six campuses: Bridgend, Pencoed, Maesteg, Queens Road, the Arts Academy based in Cardiff, and through Engage Training.


Bridgend College has over 12,000 students and employs over 800 members of staff across its six campuses: Bridgend, Pencoed, Maesteg, Queens Road, the Arts Academy based in Cardiff, and through Engage Training. The College offers in excess of 300 courses, from Pre-Entry to Diploma and and Degree level, in over 20 vocational areas. The majority of course provision is delivered at Bridgend Campus, while Pencoed Campus offers a wide range of Landbased, Sport and Construction programmes and Maesteg Campus provides day and evening courses for local residents. In March 2011, Bridgend College opened its new Higher Education Centre at our Queens Road Campus which provides a unique learning experience for our 1,100 higher education students. In October 2011 the College’s business centre was rebranded as Engage Training providing commercial training to local and national employers, through work-based training and assessment programmes.The immediate catchment area for Bridgend College is Bridgend County Borough, Rhondda Cynon Taff and the Vale of Glamorgan. However increasingly, the college is attracting students from as far as Cardiff in the East and Swansea in the west. In addition a Community Education programme with Bridgend County Borough Council and joint educational initiatives with local Comprehensive schools, have proven to be highly successful. Bridgend College is also a learndirect Centre and offers a range of courses for both business and personal use, which can be studied on a flexible basis. The majority of these courses are online e-learning packages, which are accessed via the internet. Basic skills and ‘taster’ courses are currently delivered at a number of community venues across Bridgend, and have proven to be an effective means of attracting individuals into further education at Bridgend College. At Bridgend College we are proud of our tradition of supporting and providing education opportunities for the less able, vulnerable and disabled people’s needs, including our specialist residential provision through Weston House. Staff within the department of Pre-Vocational Education are available to give help and assistance to students as they pursue their individual programmes in the College. In addition to lecturing staff, educational support assistants provide help and support to those students experiencing difficulty. In certain cases, depending on the need, staff may be assigned on a one-to-one basis in order to provide concentrated help for the student. Technical support staff are also available to provide practical assistance with coursework and with technical adaptations on items of equipment.

Short listing

Following the closing date all applications forms are sent to the recruiting Manager for short listing.  All candidates will be assessed against the agreed selection criteria.  Candidates who meet the criteria will be invited to attend an interview.


All posts are subject to satisfactory references and these will be requested once the successful candidate has been offered the post.  Two references are requested using a standard reference request form.

Offer of Employment

The HR team will prepare and issue the offer letter and statement of terms and conditions to the new appointee, together with other relevant documents.

The HR team will also send written confirmation to unsuccessful candidates.

Interview Process

We aim to make the interview process as positive an experience as we possibly can.  The type of selection method used will depend on the vacancy that you have applied for.  All interviews will consist of a panel, which will include the Line Manager/Head of School, and where appropriate some other form of assessment e.g. presentation or work related exercise.

All candidates will be asked to bring with them the following documents:

  • A completed DBS Application Form
  • Original Identification Documents i.e. passport, driving licence and birth certificate (required under Section 8 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 and for the purpose of completing DBS Check)
  • Original Qualification Certificates

All documentation and information obtained will be kept in line with the Data Protection Act.  This information is only retained for the successful candidate.  All documents supplied by unsuccessful candidates will be shredded.
