Overview

A new concept in education... Bristol Technology and Engineering Academy is a University Technical College (UTC) for 14-19 year-olds, the first of its kind in the West of England. Specialising in engineering and environmental technologies, students experience an exciting and vibrant learning environment that encourages and develops independent thought, self-discipline, motivation and confidence.

This revolutionary concept in education presents learning techniques that combine theory and project-based activities, enhanced through strong links with our industrial partners.  These links enable us to provide relevant work-experience placements and access to a range of mentors and role models to support and inspire our students. Students attending the Academy will have a unique advantage through a mix of academic and specialist knowledge and will benefit from hands-on, real-life industry projects.

About Us

The BTE Academy specialises in engineering and environmental technologies. Providing specialist facilities and expertise, it also benefits from being co-sponsored by the employers Rolls Royce, Airbus and GKN Aerospace, the University of the West of England and the City of Bristol College. This combination of high-profile employers, a dynamic university and a large and successful FE college offers BTE students the best start to progress into post-16 education, apprenticeships, university and employment.

Welcomed into a new, purpose-built learning environment, students will find everything from the timetable to the building itself designed around the UTC’s ethos and culture of employment. This ethos is to develop young people who aspire to succeed in a career in the engineering and environmental technology sectors. It aims to inspire and nurture young people to be skilled and enterprising professionals with the academic, personal and practical skills to enter careers in this sector.

It provides a work-related environment focussing on skills relating to business awareness, teamwork, project management and employability, which will be at the heart of the curriculum. Every student is encouraged to focus positively and practically on his or her future.

Working for Us

University Technical Colleges (UTCs) offer a brand new way to learn. Working alongside local businesses, UTC's ensure the curriculum is relevant for employment. Students will be highly skilled and have the opportunity to gain an impressive range of qualifications,  providing students with a head start for next steps. We have an exciting vision for the future education of students, and are looking for passionate teachers and lecturers who will help make this a reality.
