I am delighted that you are exploring the possibility of applying for a position at John Ruskin College. The intention of this introduction is to provide you with a short insight into the College to help you decide if you wish to pursue your application.
We have transformed the curriculum to meet local needs and priorities and uphold the high standards and high aspirations that are found in most outstanding sixth form colleges. We have a strong vocational offer with substantial growth in apprenticeships through our Work Skills Academy and have a growing commercial development section. We have dramatically transformed the estate and are well on the way to creating a professional working environment for our learners and staff. However, this is still not enough. Why? Our learners, the local community and businesses deserve the best we can offer. We are aiming to “become brilliant” in the eyes of each and every one of our learners, which we believe is the hardest standard to meet.
The College is extremely keen to ensure that we maintain the progress made so far so that the young people at John Ruskin College receive a first class college experience. We strive to ensure our students are truly valued as individuals. It is crucial that we are positive at all times and aim to continuously build self-confidence and belief into our students; this means embracing a “you can do it culture” within a “we can do it” framework that will inspire our young people to learn. Our aspirations for the trajectory of improvement remain high, and we continue to focus on creating happy successful students.
To work at John Ruskin College, you must aspire to be an outstanding colleague and be willing to share and learn. Above all else, staff at John Ruskin College must value all young people and aspire to make them outstanding citizens who have real self-belief and feel good about themselves. We wish to appoint positive people who want to make a difference. Working at John Ruskin College will be demanding. However, I assure you that as a colleague you will be of great value and importance and in return our pay is competitive with generous terms and conditions. We provide staff with excellent support, a professional development programme and the resources to carry out a first class job.
I am very proud of what we have achieved at JRC and there is a continued moral dimension to the work ahead. Recruiting and selecting people with the right values has been, and will continue to be, crucial as the College moves to the next phase of its development.
Finally, I would say that I do appreciate how long it takes to apply for jobs. I appreciate your investment of time and whatever the outcome, I wish you well in the future.
