Overview

I am immensely proud of our school - it is a special place to work and learn. I am proud of our pupils’ academic achievements and equally proud of our caring and supportive ethos.

At the heart of Penglais’s success are strong positive relationships. We work hard to foster strong links between teachers and pupils, teachers and parents as well as with our community. We understand that a young person’s success depends on close collaboration between home, school and  community. We have high expectations of all, encouraging and enabling our pupils to achieve outstanding academic and personal success.

Our team of talented teachers are passionate about their subjects and committed to developing that passion in their pupils. This is evident in the wide range of opportunities offered beyond the classroom from sporting fixtures, to school, Ceredigion and UK concerts, Urdd and National Eisteddfodau, Art and Design Exhibitions, regular visits to Aberystwyth and other UK universities, local, national and international competitions in sport, maths, debating, engineering, chemistry, rockets, as well as educational visits in Ceredigion, Wales, Europe and beyond.

Our thriving and successful Sixth Form sees most of the students going on to University. In recent years over half of these achieved places at the Russell Group of Universities (regarded as the most prestigious) and in 2014 and 2015 nine have gained places at Oxford or Cambridge. We are most proud when we hear that Penglais has enabled pupils to achieve success in their chosen career or ambitions. I am always amazed at the range of jobs, roles and achievements of our previous pupils. It is a privilege to play a part in preparing our young people to achieve their ambitions whether for further study, setting up their own businesses, starting an apprenticeship or achieving personal goals. It is this that makes teaching such a pleasure. We are a very happy and successful school.

Our pupils are challenged and motivated to achieve their full potential in a caring, supportive and inclusive environment. At Penglais hard work, commitment and resilience are recognised and result in success. Our holistic approach and learner centred ethos means our learners become well rounded, reflective and confident young adults fully prepared for their next steps, whatever path they choose.
