Ysgol Bro Preseli

Ysgol Bro Preseli

Ysgol y Frenni was established in 2006. Previously there were primary schools in Crymych, Blaenffos and Hermon, but the schools were merged and Ysgol y Frenni was formed. Ysgol y Preseli was established as a Bilingual Comprehensive School in 1991 and its success has seen a significant growth in the numbers of pupils receiving Welsh medium Education.

The school promotes first-class Welsh-medium education, high standards and excellent outcomes. In addition to excellent academic standards the school also offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities which include theatrical performances, sports, music, visits, clubs and societies.

Ysgol Bro Preseli is ready to respond to the implementation of national priorities for improving standards and the quality of teaching and learning. The school is a lead school with The Athrofa, Trinity Saint Davids University for initial teacher education and is an innovative school for professional learning.

As a community school our facilities are widely used by the community during the day and in the evenings and the school makes effective use of the community’s resources as a means to enrich pupils’ education. On campus, a Welsh-medium satellite of Portfield School is situated along with a Language Centre, a Community Learning Centre which includes a Welsh for Adults Service, the Gromlech Theatre, a public library, a swimming pool, a leisure centre, an all-weather pitch, a day childcare nursery and a cylch meithrin.

Ethos of Ysgol Bro Preseli

High standards of discipline are maintained in the school based on agreed values. We believe that pupils have a sense of self-discipline and a responsible attitude.

As the school is an officially bilingual school, parents and pupils are expected to have a passion for education through the medium of Welsh.

We expect pupils to show respect and pride in the Welsh language by using the language regularly inside and outside the classroom.

We try to instil pride in the pupils for the language, culture, history and heritage of Wales.

Language Centre

A new home. A new challenge. Learn Welsh.

Language Centre
  • The main aim of the Language Centers is to provide an intensive course in Welsh for learners that will enable them to fully take part in bilingual education. This is extremely important in assisting primary schools to implement a concurrent language policy.
  • The Bro Preseli Language Centre is located at Ysgol Bro Preseli. Here, in a friendly environment, children of similar age from many local primary schools come together for beginners’ Welsh courses.
    • Class numbers never exceed 14.
    • One teacher, one subject ensures quick learning.
    • The Language Centre is funded by the Pembrokeshire Education and the Welsh Government- there is no cost to you.
    • An opportunity to make friends with other children who are ‘new to the area’.
