Coastland College is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Equestrian Centre Instructor / Supervisor to support the daily running of our BHS‑approved Manor Stables and help shape the future of our equine students. This is a hands‑on, dynamic role within a busy commercial and educational yard — perfect for someone who thrives in both riding instruction and operational yard leadership.

You’ll work closely with the Equestrian Centre Manager to deliver high‑quality riding tuition, coach students in practical skills, maintain excellent horse welfare, and support commercial activities.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Yard Operations

Support daily yard management and maintain a safe, clean environment.

Exercise, school, and ride horses in line with training plans.

Monitor horse health, liaise with vets, and maintain accurate care records.

Act as a point of contact for liveries.

2. Student Instruction & Coaching

Deliver safe, engaging riding lessons and practical stable management sessions.

Provide coaching, feedback and support learner progression.

Embed employability and personal development skills.

3. Welfare, Safety & Yard Standards

Uphold BHS standards, ensure welfare and maintain yard facilities.

Follow risk assessments and contribute to safe working practices.

4. Commercial Activity

Support delivery of clinics, events, camps and external bookings.

Provide excellent customer service and assist with business development.

5. General College Responsibilities

Safeguarding, H&S, equality and diversity

Professional conduct and CPD

Supporting cross‑college events and initiatives

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum BHS Stage 3 Coach in Complete Horsemanship (formerly BHSAI).

• Level 3 equine qualification.

• Experience working on a commercial or training yard.

• Proven experience instructing and supervising students.

• Strong practical equestrian skills — riding, schooling, and handling a range of horses.

• Ability to deliver safe, effective riding instruction and yard based sessions.

• English & Maths at Level 2.

• First Aid qualification (or willingness to achieve).

• Strong organisation, record keeping and communication skills.

• Willingness to work weekends/evenings on a rota.

Desirable

• Teaching or assessor qualification.

• Experience working in an educational environment.

• Additional vocational equine qualifications.

• Tractor driving experience or willingness to train.

Working patterns: Monday and Thursday 10am-9pm, and Friday 7am-6pm. The role includes some Saturdays, typically 2 Saturdays per month, and occasionally 3 Saturdays in a 5‑week month. Saturday hours: 8:00am–6:00pm.

Salary: £23,349 (based on 30 hours) - Point 22 £28,798 per annum (FTE)
