About the Role
As an Outdoor Course Tutor / Teacher, you’ll deliver high‑quality teaching across our Outdoor Adventure Level 3 programmes, supporting learners aged 16+ to develop the skills, confidence and resilience needed to succeed in the outdoor industry and beyond.
You’ll plan and lead engaging theoretical and practical sessions — including navigation, fitness, climbing, kayaking, team leadership, and other land and water‑based activities. You will play a key role in shaping their academic progress, personal development, and their readiness for employment.
This is a role for an educator who enjoys variety, challenge, and the privilege of helping students flourish both in the classroom and in the great outdoors.
What You’ll Be Doing
Deliver outstanding practical and classroom‑based teaching in outdoor adventure and sport activities.
Lead progressive outdoor programmes in land and water‑based disciplines.
Prepare high‑quality lesson plans, schemes of work and assessments.
Support learners with pastoral care, progress monitoring, attendance, and achievement.
Organise trips, visits, expeditions and enrichment opportunities.
Contribute to course leadership, curriculum development and self‑assessment.
Work collaboratively with the wider department and act as a positive role model for young people.
Maintain high levels of safety, professionalism and safeguarding throughout your work
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
A range of National Governing Body outdoor qualifications (e.g., Walking, Climbing, Paddlesports, Mountain Bike).
Experience teaching or instructing young people (16+).
Excellent practical delivery skills across a variety of outdoor activities.
Strong organisational, communication and administrative skills.
Ability to work independently with groups on‑ or off‑site.
English & Maths at Level 2.
First Aid qualification (or willingness to work towards).
Teaching qualification at Level 5+ (or willingness to work towards).
A commitment to high standards in Health & Safety.
Full UK driving licence with business insurance.
Desirable:
Assessor/Verifier qualifications.
Fitness or vocational teaching qualifications.
Military/cadet or public services teaching background.
Additional activity qualifications (e.g., Ropes Course, Archery, Sailing/Safety Boat, D1 Minibus).
