As a valued member of the Careers and Work Placement Team, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting learners to make informed decisions about their education and careers, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed. In this role as Careers and Work Placement Coordinator you will be coordinating all aspects of Work Experience/Industry Placements for our construction department as timetabled for full time learners, developing and maintaining a comprehensive bank of career information and resources and making these accessible to prospective and current learners, parents and staff. You will be required to deliver high quality career and course information, impartial advice and guidance and employability skills to prospective and current learners, delivering an IAG service in accordance with expectations set out in the National Careers Strategy and associated guidance which meets Gatsby benchmarks.

Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of local labour market trends and work as part of the Employer Engagement Team to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with employers will be a key part of the role as well as working to regularly resource the local job offers to support the learner 'job shop' .

To be considered for this role it is essential that you can demonstrate the following:  

  • Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy.
  • Full Level 3 Qualification.
  • Excellent listening skills and the ability to communicate fluently, succinctly and effectively with a wide range of individuals including students, staff and external organisations.
  • Ability to conduct one-to-one discussions with a wide range of individuals and to keep accurate records of interviews and actions.
  • Proven initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • A good level of knowledge and skill in the use of Microsoft Office packages and of accessing and using web-based information.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines both independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to work with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • An ability to relate to, and empathise with, students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
  • Good presentation skills and a proven ability to deliver talks, presentations and workshops to internal and external audiences to support and facilitate careers advice and study sessions.
  • Hold a current, clean and valid driving licence to be able to drive to events off-site transporting college promotional material/stands. 
  • An understanding of the Health and Safety requirements in the workplace and the importance of following procedures.
