What's new to FEjobs in September 2020?
Colleges are officially open, and recruitment is picking up across the UK! We’re constantly bringing out instrumental updates to support your college or group this academic year, and this month we’ve made improvements to the documents functionality as well as other changes to your Client Portal.
Extending a vacancy feature
In response to recent feedback that we have received from our clients, we are reintroducing our company standard vacancy length of 42 days. This was previously extended in March 2020 as part of a strategy to support your recruitment efforts during the early stages of lockdown. With the Autumn Term now well underway, we have been informed that this additional time is no longer required.
However, if your vacancy has closed and you haven’t had the applications you were hoping for, you now have the option to extend it for a period of time. Simply visit the Vacancies tab in your Client Portal and in the Actions drop down against a closed vacancy select “Extend”. This will set your vacancy to live again and give you that valuable extra time to attract the right candidates.
Additional file formats accepted within Documents
Following feedback from our customers, we’ve expanded the types of file formats that you can upload to your Client Portal. Now you can upload more types of documents in various places, including against the Candidate tab, vacancies, candidate applications and candidates in the Talent Pool.
In many places, the Client Portal now supports the following file formats: .bmp, .doc, .docx, .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .ods, .odt, .pdf, .png, .ppt, .pptx, .txt, .xls, .xlsx
Candidate tab improvements
We’ve reduced the amount of time it takes to load the Candidates tab on your Client Portal to give you a slicker experience. This will make it more seamless when you navigate around the Client Portal and view the candidates that have applied to your vacancies.
Changes to our IFrames
From the beginning of November, FEjobs IFrames hosted on your website will no longer be supported. We have made this decision because IFrames are outdated; as such they are not maintained so contain old information for candidates as well as being a poor user experience for mobile users. On top of this they can also have security risks for the users.
If you are still using an IFrame on your college’s website, we would recommend removing it and instead linking directly to your FEjobs Career Page or Career Site to take interested visitors direct to your jobs and Talent Pool. If you want more information or guidance, please consult with your Customer Success Manager or contact us.
International online application form changes
Following feedback from our international colleges that use our online application form as their favoured application method, we’ve updated the online application form exclusively for non-UK college's. The international version of the application form now has UK-specific fields hidden for candidates, including “DfE number” and “Right to work in the UK”.
This change should encourage more non-UK applications to your college as well as cementing your international status.
Activity logging updates
Some behind-the-scenes work has taken place to give you more accurate activity logging within the Client Portal. This update now provides you with instant logs of all activities that take place within your organisation’s account.

Coming up
We’ve got some exciting changes coming soon, including updates to our schedule online interview tool.
