Overview

Claygate is a two-form entry primary school for children aged 4-11, located in a wonderful setting in the heart of Claygate in Surrey. The children benefit from outstanding facilities which include a 20m heated swimming pool, a pond and wildlife area, an allotment and excellent curriculum resources. As a school our 'core business' is obviously children's learning.

The teaching of English and mathematics is therefore given a very high priority and standards in those two subjects are consistently high. But we also believe that our role is to provide children with a broad education in which their development in all areas is stimulated and nurtured. We therefore emphasise the creative side of children's development (through art, music and drama for example); their physical development through the PE curriculum; their growth as responsible and caring members of society through the school's ethos; and their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.

We provide a wide range of activities for children beyond the 'formal' curriculum. In addition to class outings and trips to places of interest we also have a full programme of visitors to the school including theatre groups, musicians and guest speakers. There is also an extensive extra-curricular programme. We work closely with a range of charities, and over the past few years the children have raised thousands of pounds for organisations such as NSPCC, WaterAid, NCH, Barnados, and Comic & Sport Relief.

About Us

Girl_with_book.jpg

We follow a Values framework through which children explore the principles and qualities they aspire to as individuals. Children are introduced to (and revisit) our twenty two values over a period of two years, and they are encouraged to consider what each value means to them, their families and friends, and how they see those values being demonstrated in the world around them. We hope that by promoting a reflective approach to personal qualities, children will develop an understanding of the importance of individual behaviour and how it helps to shape the community in which they live and work. We explore a value each month, with one year group taking the lead through assemblies and displays. The display board just inside the main entrance is devoted to the value of the month, and children's achievements in respect of the values framework are celebrated in assemblies. Claygate's School Values are:   Understanding Confidence Care & compassion Patience Trust Peace Respect Thoughtfulness Responsibility Giving & sharing Co-operation Happiness Friendship Humility Fairness & equality Love Freedom Honesty Appreciation Courage   Being healthy & staying safe Togetherness & belonging
