New City College, London

NEW CITY COLLEGE

Welcome to east London’s newest and largest college. Created by the merger of Hackney Community College and Tower Hamlets College on 1 August 2016 and with Redbridge College on 1 April 2017.

New City College is the largest college in east London providing our community with a large choice of courses to help them progress and achieve their future academic and career ambitions.

A merger that will join Redbridge College with Tower Hamlets College and Hackney Community College has been confirmed by the colleges’ governing bodies. The 3-college group which will be formed by the merger in April 2017 will be the second largest further education college in London and the eighth largest in the country. Hackney and Tower Hamlets colleges merged in August 2016.

The organisation will be financially robust with a turnover of £67m and will support a significant 15,000 students, trainees and apprentices each year. The college will continue to respond to the specific local needs of its communities in the three boroughs. It will also be in a stronger position to develop its regional and national employer-responsive work to make sure that the skills and qualifications offered by the college are those needed by industry. The merger gives the opportunity for the group to develop existing and further specialisms at level 4 and above, in line with the London and national skills agenda.

  • All three colleges within the group were graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted in their most recent inspection, and all have a strong reputation for innovation and excellent support for students.
  • Each college will retain its name, campuses and a substantial curriculum from entry level through to higher and professional qualifications.
